Carney captures it & becomes next PM

Mark Carney is the federal Liberal leader and Canada’s next PM after getting 85.9% of the vote. Chrystia Freeland got 8%, Karina Gould and Frank Bayless each got around 3%. Up next: a decision on when to call an federal election.

Justin says goodbye

In his farewell speech as PM, Trudeau said: "This is a nation-defining moment. Democracy is not a given. Freedom, it's not a given. Canada is not a given. None of those happen by accident. None of them will continue without effort."

Premier Ford extends his congratulations

Rate cut coming

Most economists expect the Bank of Canada will deliver another quarter-point rate cut Wednesday while it waits to see how long the ever-shifting trade war with the U.S. lasts. This would be the seventh consecutive cut, bringing the overnight rate down to 2.75%.

Some beautiful March break days ahead!

Here’s a nice way to start the week… looks like we’ll have lots of sunshine and double-digit highs this week! Environment Canada is forecasting temps as high as 16 degrees on Friday, and sun most days.

City workers reach deal

The City of Toronto and CUPE Local 79 reached a tentative labour deal just before the 12:01am Saturday strike deadline. The city tabled its final offer – including a 14% wage increase – last week.

12 hurt in Scarborough pub shooting

Police say at least three masked men walked into a pub near the Scarborough Town Centre on Friday night and opened fire, hurting a dozen people.  The pub was celebrating its opening night, and the victims ranged in age from their 20s to 50s. The shooting gained international media attention.

Pope Update

On Sunday, Pope Francis thanked those who have helped him through his recent illness with their “thoughtfulness of service and the tenderness of care, in particular from the doctors and health care workers, whom I thank from the bottom of my heart." The Pope remains in hospital, but the Vatican says he’s showing “slight improvement.”

Presidential Pack

Moosehead Breweries has launched its Presidential Pack, containing 1461 cans of beer, one for every day of President Trump’s four-year term. According to the company, “because everyday we deal with the uncertainty of this presidential term deserves a beer.”
