Election Day:  April 28th

As expected, Mark Carney called an election on Sunday for April 28th. Among the promises being made already, Carney is promising a 1% cut to the middle-class tax rate, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre says he’ll tackle affordability issues, and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says he’ll stand up for working Canadians.

Man killed in Harbourfront shooting, suspect still at large

Downtown Oakville suspicious death

File: Lakeshore and Navy, Downtown Oakville

Halton Police are investigating a suspicious death in downtown Oakville.  Police were called to a building in the Lakeshore and Navy street area where the body of a man was found.  Police haven’t made any arrests or released any suspect descriptions.  They’re asking anyone who might have had dashcam footage in the area on Saturday from 10am-5:30pm to contact them.

Pope out of hospital

Pope Francis is now home, but before leaving hospital appeared from a balcony to thank and bless visitors. The 88-year-old has spent the last five weeks under care.

Delta plane crash investigation video

If you haven’t had a chance to see this video yet, it’s worth the 2:43 to watch it. It’s from the Transportation Safety Board and outlines their preliminary findings in the Delta air crash at Pearson. It’s shot inside the hangar where the investigation is taking place and gives you an inside look into the investigation.

Financial Post’s mortgage expert says with inflation on the rise again, the safer bet right now is a three-year fixed or hybrid mortgage, even though a variable is tempting. Robert McLister writes, “leaving your mortgage strategy in the hands of economists and central bankers is like trusting weather forecasters to plan your beach vacation — sure, they have models, but pack an umbrella just in case.”

Men’s Health reports that two-million Americans travel abroad each year for medical procedures ranging from orthopedic surgeries to dental work. International procedures can cost a quarter of what they do at home for many Americans. The magazine breaks down several of the most common surgeries done abroad and what it might cost.

Where are the measles cases in Ontario?

CBC News reports that half of the measles cases in the province, 228 of them, are in the health unit for Oxford County, Elgin County, and St. Thomas. The second largest cluster is in the Grand Erie Public Health unit with 111 cases.
