Coyotes only killed as last resort: City report

A report, prepared for the city by an expert panel, recommends Toronto continues trying to deter coyotes through “hazing” - or the use of loud noises - to discourage coyotes from coming too close to urban areas. This, after several reported coyote attacks this winter in Toronto’s Fort York and Liberty Village neighbourhoods.

“Conservatives Crumble”: Angus Reid Poll

With a potential election call in the next couple of days, Angus Reid Institute says its latest poll shows the Liberals sailing to a majority government with Mark Carney at the helm. The poll has the party at 42% support compared to just 16% at Christmas. The Conservatives have slipped from 45% to 37% support, while the NDP have plunged from 21% to 9% support in that same time frame. The poll also found 41% of respondents think Carney is the best choice for Prime Minister compared to 29% who picked Pierre Poilievre. The online poll sampled 4,009 Canadian adults, and the results are similar to other polls from Ipsos and Leger tracked by polling site 338canada.com.

Prices jump even more than expected

StatsCan says inflation jumped 2.6% in February, which compares to 1.9% in January. The average economist was expecting a 2.2% rise. Items that had been covered by the HST/GST tax holiday like restaurant meals, alcohol, kids clothes, and toys drove the increase in prices.

Getting in line for tariff exemptions

Premier Ford has shared more about what he learned in last week’s meetings in Washington. He says the Trump administration is going to slap tariffs on the whole world and will then pick and choose who gets exemptions. “What we are working at is making sure that we are first in line for exemptions,” Ford said. Part of that plan is lowering the temperature on the topic.

Australian partnership for Arctic security

Canada is partnering with Australia to build an early warning radar system in the region. It’s not a new plan, but PM Carney says partnering with Australia will allow the project to be built as quickly as possible.
