MORNING NEWS SCRAMBLE

Get back to the Hill?

Opposition MPs are calling on the federal Liberals to recall Parliament to deal with the tariff threat. Certain elements of the plan the PM presented to President Trump will need to be passed by parliament, but it’s not scheduled to resume until March 24.

Got any bright ideas?

The CBC reports that federal Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc sent a memo to his colleagues asking for a list of ideas for retaliating against U.S. protectionism. He reportedly said that he’s only willing to spend extra cash on things that deal with the current Canada-U.S. situation, make life more affordable for Canadians, or create economic growth.

Trump to Palestinians: “No alternative” to leaving Gaza

At an Oval Office meeting with Israeli President Netanyahu, President Trump said the U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip and the Palestinians should move to other countries like Egypt or Jordan.  “I think that Gaza has been very unlucky for them. They've lived like hell,” said Trump. “If they had an alternative, they'd much rather not go back to Gaza and live in a beautiful alternative that's safe." A Hamas spokesperson rejects the idea: “We consider it a recipe for creating chaos and tension in the region.” Egypt and Jordan have also said no to the concept.

On the provincial campaign trail

🟦 PC Leader Doug Ford is explaining comments he made that he was “100% happy” that Trump won the election because he “thought things might be a little different.” He also announced that if re-elected, the province would pay billions towards Ottawa’s LRT system.

🟥 Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie was using Ford’s Trump comments to question what else he says when he doesn’t think the public is listening. She says the election now needs to focus on provincial issues like health care.

🟧 NDP Leader Marit Stiles pledged to spend more money on education, school repairs, supporting students with disabilities, and creating a universal school food program.

“On the run forever”

U.S. Officials have charged a 22-year-old Canadian math whiz for allegedly stealing $65-million in crypto. CTV News reports that the accused, Andrean Medjedovic, allegedly also bragged about the scam saying “I may be on the run forever now… Need some advice about becoming a pirate,” according to the indictment.

Tragedy in Sweden

Have you tried Lüften yet?

Lüften is the German practice of airing out your home by opening the windows on opposite sides of the space, creating a strong draft and a complete air exchange – even in the middle of winter. The centuries old concept has been scientifically found to get rid of indoor pollution which can cause headaches and other health issues over time. It also makes it harder for bacteria and mold to grow.
