Rain on way | Pope has 'quiet night' | 'Normal' ops at Pearson

GTA gets - short - break from deep freeze, deep snow

A mild start to the week in the GTA with temps warming up to plus 4, along with the possibility of rain. But it won’t last for long. The start to March will see temps dip below the freezing mark once again.

Trudeau in Kyiv

The PM is heading to Ukraine to mark the third anniversary of the start of the war. 13 foreign leaders will be in attendance. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy also says he’s willing to step down in exchange for his country becoming a NATO member. The comments come after U.S. President Trump criticized Zelenskyy’s leadership and said a peace deal wouldn’t include NATO membership.

Pope: “Resting after quiet night“

Pope Francis is in “critical” condition according to the Vatican, but he hasn’t had any more “respiratory crises”. He’s on oxygen therapy and has had blood transfusions. The Pope has pneumonia and has also been diagnosed with a kidney problem.

Airport back to normal

Pearson airport says operations are back to normal after last week’s plane crash. A bit of clean-up was still happening over the weekend, but the percentage of flights being cancelled by airlines is back within the normal range.

Federal Liberal leadership debate tonight

The first Liberal leadership debate happens tonight in French, and the English debate happens tomorrow night. Advance voting opens for party members on Wednesday with the winner named March 9th.

Not the first time

The Carolina Hurricanes had to walk to their game at Scotiabank Arena on Saturday night due to traffic congestion, and it’s making the rounds on social media. Last summer, singer Niall Horan had to walk to his concert for the same reason.

Inflation eats into retirement savings

More than three-quarters of Canadians are worried they won’t have enough savings for retirement because of inflation. The findings come in a Bank of Montreal study that also found most Canadians feel that rising prices will limit their ability to save for retirement. Canadians think they need about $1.5-million dollars saved for their golden years.

Experts are warning that every hour kids spend using screens boosts their chances of myopia or being shortsighted. Genetics play a large role but so does focusing on things close up for long periods and not spending enough time outside. It’s estimated 40% of kids and adolescents could have the condition in the next 15 years.
