The Toronto Police officer shot on Wednesday actually returned to work – and a standing ovation – at 53 Division the next day. This, amid reports the alleged shooter has been in the criminal justice system on numerous charges including gun offences.
Ready to ‘fall back?’
Daylight Saving Time comes to an end on November 3rd. As we prepare ourselves for the darker days ahead, the push to make DST permanent across Canada continues. But it won’t be that easy, unless all provinces — and even our neighbours to the south — sign on.

Lots of Canadians have had to renew their mortgages at peak rates over the last couple of years. But, as rates come down, many might be thinking about breaking their mortgages to lock in at a lower rate. If you’re thinking about it, one mortgage expert has some advice and a warning about potential pitfalls depending on your situation.
How is your credit card balance these days?
According to the Bank of Canada Governor, the share of borrowers who carry a credit card balance of at least 90% of their limit is continuing to climb - and is now above historical levels. But there’s hope - with organizations like Credit Counselling Society that offer free services. And the sooner the better!
More Canadians are going bust
The number of bankruptcy filings and consumer proposals has jumped 9% year-over-year. In the last year more than 134,000 people were in trouble. But here’s the “bright side” – when you factor in population growth, the “per capita” rate of people in trouble is below pre-pandemic levels and around the 20-year average.
