Snow alert | Steel tariff done deal | Trudeau: Tariffs unacceptable

MORNING NEWS SCRAMBLE

Oh SNOW! At least 15 MORE cms of snow on the way for GTA

Environment Canada says a mid-week winter storm with snow and freezing rain is heading our way Wednesday into Thursday. We could see more than 15 cm of snow and/or freezing rain. Be warned: hazardous travel conditions are likely so we are being urged to consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Steel Tariffs: Done deal

President Trump has now imposed the 25% tariff on U.S. imports of steel and aluminum, no matter where it’s coming from. Canada is the source of 79% of America’s aluminum imports, and its top importer of steel. Trump’s team says this move is about ensuring the U.S. never has to rely on foreign countries for these critical materials in the future. Hamilton’s Mayor Andrea Horwath says the tariffs will be “devastating” for the city".

‘Entirely unjustified’ and ‘Unacceptable’ : Trudeau response to latest Trump tariff

While en route to Paris, Prime Minister Trudeau said the federal government will work with the U.S. administration in the lead-up to the tariffs coming into effect, adding if necessary, “We will stand up for Canadian workers. We will stand up for Canadian industries.

“Let hell break out”: Trump to Hamas on unreturned hostages

President Trump says if Hamas doesn’t return all Israeli hostages by Saturday at noon, then “let hell break out”. He says the ceasefire should be scrapped if Hamas doesn’t follow through on its end of the deal.

Poilievre to build an Arctic military base

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says he’s going to build a new miliary base in the Arctic if he’s elected Prime Minister, and boost the military presence in the region including the addition of two new icebreakers. It would be Canada’s first new permanent base since the end of the Cold War.

🟦 The Progressive Conservatives are pledging to ban Chinese equity from critical mineral and energy assets funded by the province

🟧 The NDP is promising to hire 15,000 nurses over 3 years and open a hospital in Welland.

The voice of Maple Leaf Gardens dies

Paul Morris has died at 86 years old. He was the PA announcer at Maple Leaf Gardens for four decades covering more than 1,500 games between 1961 and 1999. “His voice was synonymous with the Gardens,” former captain Darryl Sittler told the Toronto Sun. “He was such a nice man, too.”

Creatine and depression

It’s a supplement that’s been known for increasing muscle mass and boosting workout energy levels, but new research indicates that creatine might also help with symptoms of depression. The small study found that in two groups of people with depression, all of whom were taking cognitive behavioural therapy, the group that took a creatine supplement had “significantly lower” depression scores.

Back vs side sleeping

Today.com has a piece on the pros and cons of side vs back sleeping.  It concludes that that side sleeping might be best if you’ve got night breathing issues, acid reflux, or are pregnant. Back sleeping might be better if you’ve got neck or back pain. Ultimately though, the best position is the one that helps you wake up feeling well rested.
