CAA Worst Roads campaign kicks off
How are your tires holding up after that brutal winter? Hopefully better than the roads, which are littered with potholes. Well you can sound off in the annual CAA Worst Roads campaign, which kicks off today. The CAA says half of the respondents in a recent survey say they have experienced vehicle damage because of poor roads.
On the federal campaign trail
🟦 Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says he’d drop the lowest income tax bracket by 2.25 percentage points, which compares to the Liberals’ proposed 1% cut.
🟥 Liberal Leader Mark Carney is promising to not cut transfers to the provinces or individuals, and he pledges to release a costed platform.
🟧 NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is promising to use Crown land to build 100,000 rent-controlled homes over the next ten years.
Elections Canada head reaches out to social media companies
The boss of Elections Canada has talked with different social media platforms to address concerns about misinformation and to seek their support in an election campaign. CBC News also quotes Chief Electoral Officer Stephane Perrault as saying, "I also encourage Canadians not to let their social media feed dictate what they read."
Updated travel warnings for China and U.S.
The Canadian government is now warning Canadians who travel to the U.S. for more than 30 days to make sure they register as required under new rules. The government is also advising that travellers to China should exercise a “high degree of caution” – particularly dual citizens – as it’s hard to provide consular and legal assistance. The updated advice comes after Ottawa confirmed four Canadians were executed in the country recently.
New research into a drug combo and heart health
A new study in the Journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings suggests that a combination of two cholesterol lowering drugs could significantly cut the risk of heart attacks and strokes. The research found that combining a statin with a cholesterol lowering drug called ezetimibe could reduce the risk of early death by 19%, a major heart issue by 18%, and a stroke by 17%. The findings challenge the notion that patients given a statin should be monitored for a couple of months before being given the other drug.
Trump slams George Clooney
“A second-rate movie star and failed political pundit” is how Donald Trump described George Clooney after the actor appeared on 60 Minutes. The star was promoting his Broadway version of the play Good Night, and Good Luck and pushing the importance of defending press freedoms. Trump called the 60 Minutes story a “total puff piece”.

Shares in consulting firm Accenture dropped 7% last week after it said U.S. federal government budget tightening is already starting to impact its revenue, and warning that contracts could be cut.
